Capturing Breath in Oaxaca
Each session is intentional. Devotional.
I use a 4x5 large format film camera and long exposures that capture the movement of your body over a period of time from the natural rhythm of your breathing and your heart beating. The exposure time varies from 1 second to 15 seconds depending on the location and the natural lighting. You connect with your breath, your heartbeat and what you’re intending for yourself. What you’re letting go of. What you’re bringing in. What you’re embodying.
I’m documenting your essence, what’s not seen by the naked eye. Your energy. Your soul. Your connection to all things. What’s unsaid, but felt.
I suggest closing your eyes so you can truly connect inside yourself instead of trying to post for the camera. I look away when I take the photo so it’s just you with yourself and the film capturing your energy. You don’t have to worry about me watching you or needing you to be anything other than yourself.
I’ll develop the one of a kind photographs in a darkroom I bring with me. You can watch the magic of your image emerging on the photograph in the darkroom with me or you can relax and sip tea and wait to see the photographs once they’re created. After they dry I’ll scan them and send the photographs in the mail to you and email the digital files your way so you can have tangible evidence of what your heart felt that day. It’s a reminder of your intentions and a sacred object holding your truth inside of it.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
“Since I was aware I had a body I have hated my body, hidden my body, tortured my body, and beat it into submission. In the last few years I've been on a journey to reclaim it as well as my sense of self and sense of existing in this world. Falling in love with myself or falling in love with my body isn't what this was about; it was about a right to exist and be seen in this world. This isn't just about beautiful photos, though it is; it's about seeing your own power and being in your body and claiming your space in this world. It is worth every penny and more.”
- Holly Whitaker, Founder and CEO of Tempest (formerly Hip Sobriety) and Author of Quit like a Woman.
“Catherine is a master. We met yesterday for one of her luxe photo sessions and it was a day of laughter, friendship, kindness and photography. We have known each other for close to 13 years. I’ve taken photography courses with her, been on photography retreats with her, hired her to take photos of me at various stages in my life as an artist, creative and human. Yesterday was one of those really special experiences that comes from deep respect and friendship. Thank you Catherine for capturing this moment and being my friend throughout this journey! Love you, appreciate you and will cherish our time together always!!” — Sarah S.
“Catherine sees me. Some of my most transcendent moments have been in front of her camera” — Danielle Laporte
“It was such a pleasure to hang out and be in Catherine's creative energy. Catherine does the photography for a lot of my clients, we've been accidental collaborators for about two years now and it was such a pleasure to meet her in person. Catherine's vision and how she moves through the world, leaves a trail of light in her path.” —Alyssa B.
“[Capturing Breath on Film in the South of France] felt like a Spiritual Experience. It felt like a landing inside myself that I’ve never felt before. It was an infusion of self and the intention put into that moment was huge. I have shivers. This experiene forever changed me.” — P.J. D.
